‘F*ck unfit’ Campaign

As Australia’s biggest fitness community, it’s time we led the campaign that said ‘F*ck unfit, Australia. Enough is enough’.

We’re not being controversial for the sake of it.

Australia is now the fourth fattest nation, behind the US, Mexico and New Zealand. It’s a country where nearly two in three adults are overweight or obese.

It’s putting incredible strain on the nation’s economy. Falls in productivity and increases in extra care measures cost the country an estimated $58 billion in 2008. Imagine what that figure would be today.

But the biggest strain of all is on people’s lives.

Obesity increases the risk of coronary heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, cancer, knee and hip problems, and sleep apnoea.

The most worrying statistic of all was the one that showed obesity in children is on the rise. And once they become obese, they’re more likely to stay obese in adulthood.

So yes, we want to shock people – and make no apologies for it.

We want to shock them into realising how unfit, and how unhealthy, Australia has become.

Shock them into understanding the scale of the situation.

Shock them into making a real difference to their lives and their family’s lives.

The campaign puts the nation’s health into the limelight. Through discussions and debate, it aims to make more people aware of what is happening, and what needs to change.

Anytime Fitness members ignore those voices that tell them it’s easier to stay indoors, eat what they like and not care about the future.

There are some inspirational people who have turned their lives around. But don’t take our word for it.

Take the word of Lochie, a 16-year old who managed to lose an incredible 32.8kg by going to the gym every day after school.

Take the word of Andrea, who lost an amazing 30kg this year despite undergoing knee reconstruction surgery that meant she couldn’t train for months on end.

Take the word of Ivan, who decided enough was enough and began hitting the gym a few years back. He’s now lost an impressive 25kg.

And take the word of Rob who, at the age of 64, was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Multiple Myeloma. After losing a lot of weight during treatment, he changed his fitness programme to restore 80% of his strength and is well on the road to remission.

These are just a small handful of the many workout warriors who have turned their lives around – not just for themselves, but for their husbands, wives and kids.

And when you’re a member of Anytime Fitness, you don’t just get a gym – you get the Anytime Workouts app too, which lets you train and track your progress, anywhere, any time.

So yes, we thought it was about time that Australia said ‘F*ck unfit’.
